Question:
What does the Analytic Snapshot on the Marketing Dashboard tell me about my traffic?
Answer:

The Marketing Dashboard reports the total number of unique visits to your site during a specific date range. It then breaks out those visits into various sources so that you know where your visits are coming from, or simply, how people are finding your site.

The Marketing Dashboard includes the following column headers and their definitions.

  • Visitors: The total number of unique visits including traffic from all sources during a chosen date range. "Unique" visits refers to traffic coming from unique IP addresses. In other words, multiple visits from the same IP address in the selected time period are counted as one visit.
  • Direct: The number of visits from people who have typed your URL directly into a browser or come in through a bookmark or favorite. In other words, Direct traffic does not come through a search engine or another site.
  • Referral: The number of visits from people clicking on your link from other Web sites.
  • Organic: The number of visits through search engines via non-paid ads.
  • PPC: The number of visits through search engines and their partners via paid ads.
  • SMM: The number of visits from any Social Media Marketing such as an ad on Facebook.
  • CSE: The number of visits from Comparison Shopping Engine marketing such as Shopping.com or TheFind.com.
  • Email: The number of visits generated from your email marketing campaigns.
  • Affiliate: The number of visits from a certain site that you have partnered with by either paying for a link or trading link.
  • Display: The number of visits from online advertising venues such as banner ads.
  • Bounce Rate: The number of visits that have come to the site and immediately leave the site with only a single page view.
  • Conversions: The number of orders, sales leads or goals (depending on how your site is set up).

From the Marketing Dashboard, you can easily move to other reports in the left navigation or use the 3 buttons below. "View Overall Traffic Summary" offers more analytics such as page views and visits per day. "View Inbound Traffic Log" includes specifics on each individual visit and "view Conversion Summary" will break out the number of conversions (orders or goals) per traffic source.
