How do a create a Trigger for my marketing promotion?
Answer:
Triggers can be appended to Ads and Marketing Targets.
Location: Marketing > Ads > Options, OR Marketing > Marketing Targets > Options
Overview: Triggers give you the flexibility to allow specific and custom incentives to be granted when a shopper visits the site using a URL communicated outside of the web site. A potential customer can be funneled to unique landing pages which will then "trigger" a coupon or discount that will be automatically applied to the order. This enables the shopper to receive a discount without having to manually enter a code at checkout and allows for the testing of various offers and avenues.
Process:
There are 2 main steps to using a trigger. First of all, a coupon must be created which is the result of the Trigger. For instance, what type of offer or incentive are you offering? Secondly, the Ad for web-based links needs to be set up under a campaign in Precis. (In rare cases, you may also set up a Trigger in a Marketing Target, for printed advertising materials.)
1. Coupon Creation
- In Precis, from the Marketing Dashboard, scroll down to "Coupons and Promotion Codes". Scroll down to Create New Coupon and select Trigger in the Coupon Type.

- Be sure to check the box, "Allow Multiple Uses," otherwise, the coupon will only apply to one customer, rather than an entire targeted audience. Failing to check this box will also not allow you to select it as the assigned coupon in the Trigger's setup.
- As with all coupon creation in Precis, after clicking Submit, enter the the coupon code that will be visible to the customer from the shopping cart.
2. Create the Trigger
There are two places in which a Trigger can be applied: Ads and Marketing Targets.
- Ads are the most commonly used avenue for Triggers. Ads include web-based links, as in PPC ads, email blasts and web-based display ads. When creating a new ad under a campaign (Marketing > Campaigns), a transaction ID will be created that the Trigger will append to. This follows the user from their first view of the ad or link, to the site and ultimately to the user's shopping cart, where the incentive is automatically applied.
- Marketing Targets are used in the case of printed advertising and promotions, rather than web-based. Please note: a Trigger on an ad will always trump a Trigger on a marketing target. Best bet is to only create triggers on ads, unless you intend on aggressive offline advertising.
Access your ad or marketing target, and will you find a collection of text-link options underneath the information for the ad/target.
Click on the Triggers Link to input your settings.

Trigger Settings
- Auto-Apply Coupon: From the drop-down, select the coupon you have designated for the Trigger. Remember, only coupons saved as type, "Trigger," will populate this drop-down.
- Affiliate: If any marketing affiliates are involved in this specific promotion, select from the drop-down. Affiliates are entered and saved in the Accounts extension of Precis.
- Use Pricing Level: If the promotion involveds a specific pricing sect for the target audience, select from the drop-down.

Click the Save/Update Triggers button to complete input. From here on out, any time a visitor views the ad or target with the appended Trigger, any conversion they complete will be automatically discounted with the coupon you have applied.
